Iona College 1st XI Hockey: 2024 Champions of Hawke’s Bay Division 1

You simply could not miss the ‘Spirit of Iona’ on and off the field as the 1st XI met old rivals Napier Girls’ High School in the HB Hockey Division 1 final. The match was intense, physical and full of heart, with both teams giving it their all until the final whistle. Our girls were proud to finish with a 2-0 win and be awarded the 2024 trophy.

The support from the sidelines was incredible - a huge thanks to all the students, staff and parents who came to cheer the team on.

In reviewing the season stats, our team had an outstanding run: 11 wins, 1 draw and just 1 loss. They scored 63 goals while conceding only 5.

A special thanks to Coach Butch Menzies, who has been with the team now for two years. His leadership, commitment to developing a strong team culture, team training and planning have been impressive. Tiffany Leppien has also been invaluable as team manager, providing essential support.

We wish the girls all the best as they now gear up for the prestigious Secondary Schools’ Federation Cup starting on 1 September, where they will play against the best teams in NZ.
