Our purpose is to encourage our girls to embrace their education – wholeheartedly; to see them emerge with vision and optimism, and to prepare them to take their places as confident and compassionate young women, driven to make a difference, wherever they choose to live and work.

WELCOME

Fostering intellect, building character.

At Iona, we don’t just teach students, we create the conditions where high-quality learning thrives. We want our girls to go into the world strong in intellect and equally strong in character.

We want your daughters to understand that being brave, taking risks, working hard, developing self control, showing grit and displaying adaptive thinking are qualities that will unleash their potential.

WHY IONA?

Iona girls develop skills, values and confidence that allow and encourage them to take charge of their lives, now and into the future.

From the time of enrolment until her day of graduation, your daughter will be at the very heart of Iona – an environment in which our respected time honoured traditions are balanced with dynamic and innovative 21st century capabilities.

HISTORY & ARCHIVES

Opened in 1914, Iona College is the oldest Presbyterian School in New Zealand.

It was established as a girls’ boarding school built on land donated by Mr Hugh Campbell.

In its infancy, Iona developed very quickly and prospered under the leadership of Miss Isabel Fraser, the founding headmistress, who offered her services free for the first five years.

Iona has survived wartime, the force of a 7.9 earthquake, the deprivation of the depression years to thrive today as an integrated boarding and day school for girls with a full roll of over 300 students.
